Well the Brawley's School Rd ordeal is heating up again. Now the residents want all the kids to ride the bus to school to cut down on the traffic. After the lower traffic flow somebody decided to come up with this idea. Do you think it will work? Not a chance! You really think my kid's are going to stay at home and catch the bus to school, or I'm going to stop getting ready to take them? Iredell has a serious problem with this part of Mecklenburg overflow, what to do with all the people. The taxes are so low in Iredell that we can buy so much more house it's hard to not move there. And the folks around are so nice, maybe they don't like all the newcomers but they are still so nice. They might be mad at you with you New York license plate, but they are still so nice. It's just something you don't understand, nice people, even when they are unset with you they are still nice. Really I mean it, just plain old nice people, makes you just feel like going to mom's house every day.
I grew up in Alexander County and our newspaper was and still is mainly the Statesville Record and Landmark, of course Alexander County, (The Times) has a weekly paper, kinda cool to read about your neighbors and things once a week. Of course you'll miss most of the funerals and anything else that happens for just a couple days, but still fun to find out what has happened. But most read the Charlotte Observer, just like me I would recommed the Observer to find out things on a daily basis. I'll never forget the little column in the Statesville Record, "Down in Iredell" sort of a gossip column and my mom always read to see if some of her friends from work were mentioned. She only worked at Flexnit or Bally in on Meacham Rd for 42 years. Wow!! Things have changed today, do you think you might stay at your job 20 years, much less 42. But she always had a place to go, and when she retired they were paying her a whopping $9.99 per hour. That was in 2001, and it was a textile job, she sewed bras, the Wonder Bra. For $9.99 per hour for the last year or so, for many years before it was less, much less. I know as your older it's hard to retrain for the newer computer related jobs, but for many to lose their job, the low paying textile job, it will be a major blessing when they can start making a living wage. Google's moving just up the road about 20 miles north of Alexander County and they start employees at $45,000 per year. About double what mom made after 42 years, so the best thing that could happen is to loose that textile job and retrain for something better. The jobs are here just need someone willing to work and do the job. Where mom worked if she was 5 minutes late they docked her pay 15 minutes and if she was 5 minutes late or took 5 extra minutes for lunch or took off early to go to the doctor 7 times a year they would just dismiss her based on policy. But it was the policy, good or bad, just the policy. Maybe all firms should do this, then I could get in the coffee shop when it first opens or buy gas at 7 am when the station is supposed to open. Sorry just running my mouth.
All the counties around Charlotte are in a crisis about what to do with all the newcomers. We are building homes and you are coming to buy them, and you love the new ones, with 2500 square feet and a two car garage with hardwoods and grainte counter for just under $300k, and you are able to pay cash and take a part time job. So big deal your taxes are $1000 per year and somebody says "Oh No" they are going to raise taxes 5% to $1050, I mean, "what's the big deal", where you came from the tax bill was $3500, and your house was build in 1948 and only had 1250 square feet. And you are loving it here, with all the nice people. But what I have to say about this is you need to make up you mind fast, for soon the new home builders are going to have to slow or stop their construction. All the counties around are going to come up with some kind of extra fees, taxes, or something like a moratoruim to wait on the road and schools to catch up with the homes and traffic. You say "what traffic" but we are not used to driving over 20 or 30 minutes to work, really just a 10 minute drive is best, but now it takes longer, much longer, to make that 10 minute drive. So you need to stop waiting on the prices to go back up in you area, and cut the price and make the sale. Or our prices will go up too too much for the move to the greatest place in the world possible.
All the new construction has held down the price of exsisting homes and in some areas of town they have lost a little value. Several years the average prices around Charlotte have risen 3 to 5%, but last year a amazing 13% jump. You ain't seen nothing yet, prices are going up, just wait till all the builders can't get lot permits and no new lots are allowed to be sold. Then where are you going to move. But you will move here and buy that wonderful home in Mint Hill, or Matthews that was build in 1975 with the large yard and all the flowers. And you'll be so glad you went ahead and sold you home for less then everybody else wanted for theirs. So happy you'll shout all the way around the neighborhood and you will be considered "nice" by your neighbors and the visitors at the gas station with the New York tags will envy you and your courage to step out and sell you place back home.
I just talked to a client of mine that sold his home in Florida last spring for $439k and his neighbors there said the same home as his just sold for $289k last week. But his home was worth over $550k when he decided to sell last spring, but he had the foresight to visit Charlotte first and see the bargins and make the decision to sell his place at a price below the then so called market value. Now he's enjoying not one but two beautiful homes here, one to live in and the other as a rental. And both are paid for, of course he could of held out for the other $100K or so and still be living in Hurricane alley!!
Make up you mind and sell you home today, I promise you will be happier, live a less stressful live, and enjoy your neighbors around here.
You might even run into my mom, and if you do tell here "Hello" she'll tell you about her only grand kid and how the Lord has been good to her the last 78 years.
Till then you can visit my church www.slbc.net see ya Gary

So is "the Donald" planning to buy Charlotte, it's the top of the news today, or so says the Charlotte Observer! Maybe just a few blocks of downtown for an office tower, luxury condo's and more and more. (Only 26 new condo towers being build in the downtown loop) It's just proof that Charlotte has hit the radar everywhere, not just the regular folks like you and me, but the big money wants in on our great city also. I've only lived here most of my life, except for the couple years in Raleigh at NCSU, so things today have a different feel then that first trip downtown in 1968. I only wish I had some pictures to show you how things have changed, boy you can't believe the differences since then. I worked downtown at Lapointe Chevy-Honda in the late 70's. It was at the corner of Trade and Davidson, we parked our new cars where the Federal Reserve is today, what a change. Our overflow lot is now part of the Bobcats arena. It just amazes me! You will love downtown, looks a lot like some parts of Manhattan, just a few blocks up and down Tryon are very classy just like in the movies. Quite a change for this country boy from 45 miles up the road in Alexander County (Stony Point).
